Why does LuxID use human verification?
To maintain the integrity of the LuxID service and protect users, LuxID must prevent automated bots and bad actors from creating accounts. Human verification checks are used during account creation and in certain security-sensitive situations to confirm that you are a real person.
What verification methods does LuxID use?
LuxID may ask you to verify using one or more of the following methods:
- A bot check - An automated check that confirms a person, rather than a program, is using the browser. Most of the time it completes on its own while the page loads and there is nothing for you to do.
- Email verification - A confirmation link or code sent to the email address you provided during registration.
- SMS verification - A one-time code sent to your phone number via SMS.
LuxID uses automated checks to prevent abuse. The verification method you are asked to complete may vary, and is determined automatically. If you are a legitimate user, complete the check that is shown to continue.
What the bot check looks like
Usually, nothing. The check is a small calculation your browser performs by itself while the page loads. You may see a brief "verifying" indicator, and then the page continues. You are not asked to read distorted text or pick out objects in pictures.
Sometimes you are asked to confirm. In situations assessed as riskier, the check can ask you to confirm you are not a bot, normally by clicking or ticking a single box. This is occasional rather than routine, and whether it appears is decided automatically for each attempt - so seeing it once and not the next time is normal, and it does not mean anything is wrong with your account. A single box is the most you are ever asked to do.
Sometimes you need to start it again. If you fill in a form and then leave it open for a long time before submitting it, the check goes out of date. The same can happen if it runs into a problem, for example if your connection drops. In both cases the box shows a short message and a button to start the check again - select it, wait a moment, then submit the form.
Troubleshooting verification issues
If you are unable to complete the verification step:
- If the check shows a button to start again, select it and wait for it to finish before submitting the form.
- Try refreshing the page.
- Disable browser extensions that may interfere with the verification process.
- Try a different browser or device.
- If you are using a VPN, try disconnecting it temporarily or switching to a different server.
- If the page seems to stay on "verifying", give it a few seconds. The check does some work in the background and can take longer on a slow connection or an older device.
- If the problem persists, contact LuxID support.
A blocked background check is the most common cause: privacy extensions, strict tracking-protection settings and some VPNs prevent it from finishing, and the page then waits indefinitely rather than showing an error.
When the check does ask you to confirm, it is a single control you can reach with the keyboard and operate with a screen reader - there is no image or audio puzzle to solve. If you cannot complete it for any reason, contact LuxID support and we will help you verify another way.
